Doesn't it feel like the soccer season just started?

And yet, here we are, two days away from the beginning of the playoffs. All of our 4-AAAAA teams will enter the region playoffs with McIntosh's boys and girls and Starr's Mill's boys and girls entering the region playoffs as the top seed (barring any last-minute disasters last night after the paper went to press) and Fayette County's boys and girls enter as the second seed in their subregion.

The Fayette County Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Raiders from Riverdale 15-0 to finish their subregion schedule with a 5-1 record. Eight different Lady Tigers had goals while seven players had at least one assist in 32 minutes of play. Last night, they hosted Stockbridge during their senior night festivities.

The Fayette County boys team beat Eagle's Landing 2-1 on their senior night last Friday. David Zak scored both goals for the Tigers.

The McIntosh boys faced Griffin Friday and won 2-1. Matt Clements scored both goals for the Chiefs and McIntosh stayed perfect in region play. Saturday, they hosted Warner Robins, playing a game from the McIntosh Classic that had been postponed. The Chiefs won 2-1 in an intensely physical match, with both goals coming from Clements again.

Clements is now the leading goal scorer for high school boys in the state of Georgia with 92 goals. The Chiefs hosted McEachern last night for their senior night.

The Lady Chiefs played in the adidas Challenge Cup last week and went undefeated. They defeated Davis Senior from California 3-2 in overtime and then beat Arapahoe from Colorado 4-1 the next day. Julie Herdic scored all seven goals in those two matches.

In their final two matches of the tournament, McIntosh defeated Madison West, Wis., 7-2 and Huntsville, Ala., 8-0. Tabitha Lowey had four goals in the two games, while Dana Van Winkle and Keri Pendergrass had three goals, Herdic had two goals and Brittany Jones and Cate Egan each had one goal. The Lady Chiefs hosted North Gwinnett last night for their final game of the regular season.

Starr's Mill's girls also played in the adidas Cup Challenge. They defeated Huntsville, Ala. 2-1 in overtime, getting goals from Alison Graham and Rachel Sproul. The Lady Panthers faced Arapahoe, Colo. and won 3-2, getting goals from Jessie Parsons, Alice Martin and Amanda Thurber. In their final game of the Challenge, Starr's Mill tied Catholic Memorial, Wis. 3-3. The Lady Panthers got goals from Sara McLaughlin, Shelley Wegryzyn and Graham. The Starr's Mill girls and boys hosted Henry County last night.

As for the Starr's Mill boys, they defeated Jonesboro 5-0 last Friday to stay perfect in region play and improve their overall record to 10-3. Chris Lambing scored two goals while Mikey Hubbard, Jordan Davis and Jarod Grace each added one goal.

Playoff games start Friday with girls playing at 6 p.m. and boys playing at 8 p.m. All of the games should be at home for the first round because of the teams' seeding.
