BOYLAN Opening Today Joe Dirt David Spade plays a red neck whose parents abandoned him early in life. This film follows his struggles as he continues his search for them as an adult. The previews look funny and Spade is starting to broaden his horizons as an actor. Rated PG-13. Josie and the Pussycats Who asked for this one? The girls are cute in their kitty cat uniforms, but there's no Fred-like leader, Shaggy-like brother, mean spirited jealous girl, or cat who gets into trouble. And it takes place on Earth and not in space. Will it be campy? Yes. Does that mean it will be good? I don't know. Rated PG-13. Opening Friday Bridget Jones Diary Rene Zellweger stars as Bridget Jones, a British lady who has her share of problems in love as well as in the work place. This film is based on a popular novel, which is written as a diary of one year in Bridget's life. The buzz is good and Hugh Grant is in it, so you know it has to be good, right? Rated R. Now Playing Along Came A Spider No, this has nothing to do with muffets or tuffets. Morgan Freeman reprises his role from the thriller Kiss The Girls and is out to catch a killer. Do you like this type of movie? Guess we know where you will be this weekend. Rated R. Blow This film about the people behind the cocaine boom in the 1970s is getting the type of critical acclaim that Traffic received. Johnny Depp is the star, but the cast also includes Penelope Cruz, Ray Liotta and Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Reubens. It looks interesting. Rated R. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon This is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. It has action, romance, comedy and drama. Though it is in Mandarin with English subtitles, you will be swept away by the film and forget that you are reading. Rated PG-13. Down To Earth Chris Rock stars as a comedian who dies before his time and returns to Earth in the body of a rich, old, white man. This is a remake of Heaven Can Wait and could be quite good. Rated PG-13. Enemy At The Gates Jude Law plays a Russian sniper who must battle a German sniper and a love triangle during World War II. Rated R. Exit Wounds Steven Seagal returns to the world of the movie theatre with this tale of a cop battling corrupt cops in the inner city. DMX, Tom Arnold and Jill Hennesy also star. Rated R. Heartbreakers Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt play a mother and daughter con team in Florida. Gene Hackman, Ray Liotta and Jason Lee also star. Rated PG-13. Just Visiting Jean Reno stars as a 12th century warrior who gets transported to the 21st century with his idiotic assistant. I don't know about you, but I love these silly time travel movies. Bill and Ted looked kind of weird and that movie is a classic. Rated PG-13. O Brother Where Art Thou This film, written and directed by The Coen Brothers (Fargo) is set in the Depression Era south. It is humorous and beautifully directed but the film goes nowhere and none of the characters change. Rated PG-13. Pokemon 3 A whole new Pokemon movie, right at the time when the new game comes out for Nintendo. They're geniuses aren't they. I've actually heard this is the best of the three films. If the sound is actually matched up in this one, I'll believe it. Rated G. Someone Like You Ashley Judd's character gets dumped, so she moves in with a male coworker and starts writing a column about men and women. It sounds like Sex and the City: The movie, but rated PG-13 and without Sarah Jessica Parker. Rated PG-13. Spy Kids Yes! This movie is awesome. Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino are great as international spies/parents, while Alan Cumming, Tony Shalhoub and Teri hatcher are amazing as the bad guys. The kids steal the show though, as their portrayals of sparring siblings is both touching and hilarious. Robert Rodriguez wrote, directed, produced, operated the camera, edited and wrote part of the score for this film. His dedication to the movie shows. I am already waiting for the sequel, which begins filming in a few short months. Rated PG. The Brothers Three affluent black men must think about their ways when a friend, a reformed playboy, is getting married. Rated R. The Mexican Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts star in this action-comedy about a stolen gun and love on the run. Sounds like fun. Rated R. Tomcats Sex comedies are back in again or so they would have you believe. This film deals with seven friends who wagered that they would be the last to be married. There are two left and the pot has been wisely invested. Now, the two men (I use the word loosely) try to win the money by getting the other one hitched. Rated R. Traffic This film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, was very well done. It has a great cast, including a stellar performance from Benicio Del Toro, and tip top direction. This movie is a sure fire conversation starter. Rated R. Also Playing Charlie's Angels A fun movie based on the hit television program. It is quite campy but the action is good and the sound track is great. Rated PG-13. Family Man Nicolas Cage stars as a rich business executive, who gets to see what his life would be like if he had married his college sweetheart. I bet it would be better if he had married her. Rated PG-13. Finding Forrester "You're the man now, dog," barks Sean Connery portraying the crusty old hermit, William Forrester. This film deals with an author befriending a young, black author and confronting his fears. I fear it looks an awful lot like "Good Will Hunting" which was directed by the same director. Rated PG-13. Miss Congeniality Sandra Bullock stars as an FBI agent who goes undercover to catch a crook at a beauty pageant. I do not enjoy these types of movies, but several females have told me they thoroughly enjoyed this. Rated PG-13. 102 Dalmations Glenn Close reprises her role as Cruella DeVil in the sequel to the live action film based on the animated classic. This is one for the kids. Rated G. Sugar and Spice What a great movie. Though it is a hard PG-13, the humor is very sharp and satirical and the cats of mostly no-names makes the film even more enjoyable. The plot revolves around bank robbing cheerleaders and it will steal your heart. Rated PG-13. The Emperor's New Groove A very funny Disney film starring David Spade and John Goodman. The animation is excellent and the story about friendship and loyalty is timeless. Rated G. The Wedding Planner Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey star in this romantic comedy about a man who ditches his bride to be for the wedding planner. How hilarious. Rated PG-13. Thirteen Days Kevin Costner stars in this film about the Cuban Missile Crisis, which lets viewers know how close we came to war. This film got mediocre reviews and just looked very mediocre overall. I saw a film called Red October (or something like that) in high school and I know we came close. If you like political dramas, you'll probably like this film. Rated PG-13. 3,000 Miles To Graceland Have any of you ever wished you could see two Kevin Costner movies in the theaters on the same day? Me neither. But if you wanted to, you could do that now for only $2. This movie about a bunch of thieves dressed as Elvis impersonators got terrible reviews and lasted mere minutes in the big theaters. Rated R. Unbreakable Bruce Willis cannot be harmed and Samuel Jackson is very fragile. That is the basic plot of this film by M. Night Shyamalan, director and writer of The Sixth Sense. Rated PG-13.
