Sports Brief Jeremy Martin, a member of the Houghton College mens basketball team, has been recognized as a 2000-2001 All-America Scholar Athlete by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. It is the second straight year he has earned the honor. As a scholar athlete, Martin, a business/communication double major, joins a select group of junior and senior basketball players that have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5. The 6'5" senior forward from Fayetteville was fourth on the team in scoring (7.3) and second in rebounding (7) during the season. Carlton Griffin, a senior at Atlanta Christian College, helped lead the ACC Chargers basketball team back to the championship game of the National Tournament for Division II A. Griffin, a graduate of Sandy Creek High School and Player of the Year during his senior year there, was presented with several awards during the Chargers' annual banquet. He was presented the Pete Maravich Player of the Year award and named All-American First Team. After the championship game, he was also named MVP of the tournament. |
