Fayette racers dominate the field at Senoia Speedway The $3,000 prize to the winner of the first Pro Late Model, Big 8, 100-Lap race at Senoia Speedway Saturday night brought more than 20 cars to the track. Scott Griffin of Tyrone in his R & S Hauling, Ford Taurus passed Gabriel Corbitt in lap 45 for the win. Griffin started the race in 10th with a 14.24 qualifying lap. "We need to concentrate on our qualifying so we don't have to start that far back in the pack next time," said Griffin. Griffin has a winning streak at Senoia Speedway dating back to last fall. Finishing second to Griffin was Gainesville, Ga.'s Randy Bynum driving the Thermo King/Chevy Monte Carlo. Steve Cook of Douglasville, GA finished third after ducking into the pits during a late caution to take on two right tires. Wayne Hansard of Tyrone placed fourth. The Late Model Division is off this weekend, giving way to the first Pro Truck Series Race of the season. Fayetteville's Rod Williford in his Williford Used Auto Parts/1979 Chevy Malibu started on the pole and then won the Sportsman Division race at Senoia Speedway after regaining the lead from Steve Payton on lap 22. Payton took the lead on lap seven and kept the position until his right front tire went down, 15 laps later, causing him to pit and lose his position. Finishing in second place was Senoia's Mark Lore, while Brooks' Andy Cash finished in third place. Chris Dilbeck, last week's second place finisher, led from start to finish to take the checkered flag during Saturday's Bandoleros race. Justin South finished second with last week's winner, Matt Peeples, finishing in third. Trent Maugham came in fourth and Adam Akridge completed the top five. Matt Peeples' car was protested after last week's win and after further investigation the protest was found unjustifiable. Doug Stevens took the lead from the start in Senoia Speedway's Legends Pro/SPI Division race with Reed Sorenson tucked closely behind. Sorenson and Stevens went door to door in turn three on the final lap as they approached the checkered flag, where Sorenson inched out for the win. Trailing in a close third was Tallahassee's Marc Mitchell. Andy James finished in fourth and Walt Brannen in fifth. Mike Chambers led from the drop of the green flag in the Mini Stock division until lap 18 where his engine blew, giving the lead and the win to Cary Hamilton. This was Hamilton's second win in as many weeks at Senoia Speedway. Following Hamilton was Ty Stewart in second with Shane Mormon in third. Arthur Jordon and Steve Adams finished fourth and fifth respectively. Larry Pierce took the lead mid-way through the Street Stock race when Robby Gober's car suffered mechanical problems giving Pierce the win. Mark Lore followed in second and Ted Willingham was in third. Robby Gober dropped to fourth to finish out the field. Forest Park's David Moore won the inaugural Thunder Roadster race. Following Moore was Will Monette from Atlanta in second with Knoxville's Don Snyder in third. Bob Monette and Dale Akridge finished fourth and fifth respectively. Nick Hill won the Legends Young Lyons/Semi Pro II Division race with Cindy Anderson following in second. In third place was Joey Boyer with Doug Ludwig in fourth. Ron Johnson came in fifth rounding out the top five. Senoia Speedway opens its pit gates at 3:30 p.m. and races start at 7 p.m. The Pro Truck Series kicks off this Saturday, April 7.
