McIntosh wins two Classic games in overtime

The McIntosh Classic lived up to it's name, despite the Chiefs game with Warner Robins being postponed due to rain. Both of McIntosh's other two games went to overtime and both ended with the Chiefs as the winner.

McIntosh faced Dobyns-Bennett and won 2-1. Matt Clements scored the first goal for the Chiefs off an assist from Omar Jarun. The goal tied the game at one goal a piece and forced an overtime. In the overtime period, Jarun scored a goal from an assit by Nick Corley. In their game against Vestavia Hills, Ala., McIntosh blew a 4- 1 lead and had to get a goal in overtime to secure the victory.

McIntosh will get to face Warner Robins on Saturday, April 14 i Peachtree City. It too will be a classic match. Warner Robins defeated Vestavia Hills, 5-0 and beat Dobyns-Bennett, 3-1.

The Lady Chiefs traveled to Walton High School last week to squeeze in one more game before spring break. They won, 2-0, and will now get a chance to rest before hosting the adidas Challenge Cup/Women's Soccer Showcase, April 10-14. The tournament will feature McIntosh, Parkview and Starr's Mill as well as Huntsville, Ala., Davis Senior, Calif., Arapahoe, Colo., Catholic Memorial, Wis., and Madison West, Wis. The teams had a combined record of 156-13-8 in the 2000 season and six of the eight teams won state championships last year.

Fayette County's girls hosted Newnan on the Thursday before spring break and won, 4-1. The win gave the Lady Tigers a 3-1 record in sub-region play and puts them in second place behind McIntosh. The Lady Tigers got goals from Sarah Oxford, Lena Watford, Britini Emerson and Christine Wix in the win. They will return to the field on April 10 to take on East Coweta at East Coweta.
