Teams run well at Panther Relays

Starr's Mill played host to some of the top track and field teams in the state on St. Patrick's Day.

The Landmark girls placed fourth, while Fayette County High School finished seventh, Starr's Mill placed ninth and McIntosh placed 11th. For the boys meet, Starr's Mill placed sixth, Landmark placed ninth, Fayette County placed 10th and McIntosh placed 13th.

Landmark's girls performed very well in the meet. Sierra Hill placed fourth in the 100-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 15.79 and second in the 300-meter low hurdles with a time of 46.34. Sarah king of Landmark placed fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles with a time of 50.59, while Margaret Sams of Fayette County High School rounded out the top five with a time of 50.60.

Landmark placed fourth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:51.16, while Fayette County followed in fifth place with a time of 1:53.38. The Lady Tigers also placed fifth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 10:33.35, while McIntosh placed fifth in the 4x1,600-meter relay with a time of 24:44.23. In the 1,600 sprint medley, FCHS took first with a time of 4:33.87, while Landmark placed fifth with 4:48.91. The Lady Tigers also placed fourth in the distance medley with 13:56.32.

In the field events, Megan Byrd of Fayette County placed second in the high jump with a jump of 5'02", while Landmark's Ashley Key took fourth place with a jump of 5'. Starr's Mill's Heather Brown placed fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 7', while Stephanie Gresham, also a Lady Panther, placed third in the long jump with 16'05.50".

In the triple jump, Lindsay Vincent of Landmark placed second with 35'01.25", Megan Byrd of Fayette County High School placed third with 34'07.75". Landmark's Megan Constable placed third in the discus with a throw of 95'07", while Starr's Mill's Carmen Williams placed fifth with 93'.

In the boys events, Landmark Christian placed fourth in the 1,600-meter sprint medley with a time of 3:45.72 and fourth in the distance medley with- 11:13.85. Sean Hill of Landmark took second place in the 200-meter intermediate hurdles with 41.83. McIntosh had a top five finisher in the pole vault, as Sean Heaton captured first place with a leap of 13'.

The 1,600-meter sprint medley was a hotly contested race as Fayette County High School placed fifth with a time of 3:46.72, while Starr's Mill placed sixth with 3:46.89. Fayette County did well in the distance races. The Tigers placed fifth in the 4x800-meter relay with 8:37.44 and placed first in the distance medley with 10:55.08. Starr's Mill placed fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with 44.91.

In the field events, Fayette County's Dorian Worrell placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5'10", while Reuben Houston of Starr's Mill placed third in the long jump with 21'07.75" and a first in the triple jump with 48'04.25. Che Brewer, also of Starr's Mill, placed third in the triple jump with 43'02.50", while Ryan Watkins of Fayette County placed fourth with 40'08.50". Starr's Mill's Jason Laney placed second in the shot put with a 48'03" throw.

Fayette County's track team hosted East Coweta and Newnan yesterday after press time and will be off until April 11 when they travel to McIntosh. McIntosh traveled to take on Riverwood and Westminster yesterday and will travel to face Newnan and Lovejoy tomorrow. Starr's Mill will host Morrow and Eagle's Landing this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
