Peachtree City officials tackle issues in retreat

The Peachtree City Council conducted its annual retreat at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center this past weekend, discussing a variety of subjects.

Each department gathered data from outside municipal governments for comparison, estimated any increase needed in manpower or materials to operate its department for the next fiscal year.

Among the items discussed were any changes in taxes and license fees that would pertain to alcohol licenses, building department fees and leisure service rentals such as the athletic fields, pools, gyms, tennis courts, city parks, etc. Staff members felt that many fees that are in place are adequate and some are not, and several new fees should be added to meet new expenses incurred for the first time.

Non-profit organization funding was looked at and council felt the current amount of $25,000 in the fiscal 2001 budget is sufficient.

Implementing a user identification system at the Kedron facility was discussed as it applied to open swimming and open gym. However, director of leisure services Randy Gaddo, and recreation administrator Sherry McHugh felt that at this time the problem of unauthorized users was not great enough to warrant the expense. Start-up costs would be $31,000 and there would be a recurring cost of about $28,000 annually.

The retreat lasted for nearly two days with all department heads allowed the time needed to discuss needs and suggestions for change.
