FCHS Select Chorus celebrates American innovation through song and dance

Since the creation of the Unites States of America, this country has been creating noble inventions and making amazing discoveries.

Now, those notable figures and events will be honored through song and dance.

The Fayette County Select Chorus will present "Made In The U.S.A.," a company-developed variety show blending rock, pop and soul. The show includes such favorites as "Where The Green Grass Grows," "Proud Mary," and "Funky Town" as it depicts the Wright Brothers, George Washington Carver, Thomas Edison and many more.

The Select Chorus is an award-winning auditioned group of FCHS juniors and seniors. Under the direction of Janice Folsom, who has been at the helm of the Select Chorus Variety Show for 24 years, the chorus has gained widespread recognition throughout the state. In recent years, it has performed at the Great Christmas Tree Lighting in Atlanta, St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and last year, the chorus toured and sang at numerous locations in London and Paris.

Last month the Select Chorus earned a Superior rating in the Large Group Choral Festival sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association. This is the highest rating that may be awarded by the festival adjudicators.

Not only are the Select Chorus members musically talented, but they are well-rounded students with many other interests. This year the Select Chorus includes members from the FCHS football, wrestling, basketball and soccer teams, members of flag corps, National Honor Society, Beta Club and FCHS drama groups. Folsom, the driving force behind the chorus, has served as the choral chairman for the Georgia Music Educators Association and has also been named Teacher of the Year at FCHS.

"Made in the U.S.A." will be performed at Sams Auditorium March 22, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students, $6 for adults, and $8 at the door.

For tickets, see any Select Chorus member or phone Folsom at 770-460-3540.
