The McIntosh tennis teams hosted Lovejoy last week before heading to the Granger Invitational over the weekend.

Both squads swept all of their positions against Lovejoy. Priscilla Roberts, Rebecca Timmis and Denise Daughenbaugh won their singles matches while the double teams of Sunya Sweeney and Adrianne Hodges, Renae Clark and Shelby Carlson and Stacy Brundrette and Ream Faruqui won their matches. The winners for the boys were Brenton James, Robert Lochridge and James Dwyer in singles matches and Mike Saheim and Justin Hale, and Phil Van Fossan and Sunddep Sood in doubles matches.

At the 10th annual Granger Invitational, the girls placed second while the boys placed fourth. The Chiefs entered the tournament with 15 other schools. The girls defeated Tucker and Glynn Academy 5-0 and Lakeside 3-2 before losing a close one to Pace Academy 3-2. The boys defeated Rockdale and Carrollton 5-0 before losing two close matches to Glynn Academy, 3-2, and Marietta, 3-2. Both squads were missing several varsity members.

The girls team has received a boost this year from some very experienced players. Roberts, Hodges and Timmis are all ranked in the top 100 of junior USTA players in the state and Roberts is ranked in the top 50 in the nation in the girls 14 singles division.

McIntosh faced East Coweta yesterday and will travel to the Woodcreek subdivision Thursday to take on Starr's Mill.

In other tennis news, Kacie Anson of Fayetteville was named the state's best tennis player in the girls 18 and under age division. The award was given by the Georgia Tennis Association, in conjunction with the USTA.
