Local baseball teams play classic games

The Fayette County Tigers baseball team hosted the Sandy Creek Patriots on Friday, beginning an exciting weekend of baseball. On the mound for the Tigers was Josh Hunter, who had pitched a no-hitter against the Glynn Academy Terrors in the Jekyll Island Tournament the previous weekend.

Hunter was dominant once again as he pitched seven inning, giving up two hits, striking out six and allowing no runs. The Tigers won the game 6-0, thanks to two hits and two RBIs from Cooper Brown and RBIs from Brad Burns, Michael Harrell, Matt Owens and Brian Brooks.

In their other games over the weekend, Fayette County defeated Douglass, 4-1 and lost to Banneker, 4-3. In the Douglass game, Burns was on the mound. He struck out 11 batters, while giving up only three hits. In the loss to Banneker, the Tigers only gave up three hits, but comitted five errors.

Fayette County was scheduled to travel to Parkview yesterday. Their next game will be at home against Evans on March 28 at 5 p.m.

Things picked up for the Starr's Mill baseball team over the weekend as they got their first win of the season. The Panthers defeated Westlake, 10-5 off of a Biff Ramsey game winning grand slam in the top of the sixth inning. Brett Wilson was the winning pitcher, striking out six batters and giving up no runs. Other standouts in the win included a triple from Brandon Rogers and two hits and an RBI from designated hitter Andrew Bashakes. The panthers next game will be at home on March 28 when they take on Eagle's Landing at 4:30 p.m.
