If we really knew By DR. KNOX HERNDON
There are times when we hear things that we have heard so long, we accept them as truth. That's why it's so important that we put into our minds on a daily basis pure and good and healthy ideas. There are those who religiously watch the TV "soaps" on a daily basis to where, in their heart of hearts, they believe that those actors are really dating, marrying, divorcing and having affairs, just like it shows on the screen. We have heard the term "garbage in, garbage out." There must be something to that because it is interesting how often our lives follow the garbage we take in. If you are offended at this statement, good for you; there might be light at the end of the next commercial! What does God's word have to say on the issue of what we are to take into our minds and hearts? It says in Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there is any VIRTUE and if there is anything PRAISE WORTHY-meditate on these things." What a novel idea! Do you think it could possibly mean get rid of the "junk thinking" and try to put good and Godly uplifting "non-soap" thinking in our minds? How could we exist with out the GARBAGE and the COMMERCIALS, I might ask? How do you think our lives might change if we started on a daily basis reading God's Word and getting into a good Bible study and even praying on a continuous basis? If these ideas seem foreign, then it might just be the time to start. If we really knew how much God loves us, we would react to other family members and those in our places of work much differently. Just think if we were in total understanding of the fact that through Christ we are totally loved, totally forgiven, are sombody special, and under God's constant protection. I have a theory and it is only a theory because I have no scripture to back it up, but I feel that when a BELIEVER and FOLLOWER of Jesus gets to heaven, he or she will be shown a video of the times that God sent angels to stand by and over us to protect us. I feel it will show all the times that we were in harms way and there was an angel with a flaming sword and a big shield warding off the fiery darts of the wicked, just like His word tells us. If we really knew. When I was younger and probably not fully understanding my mortality, I would jump twice a week with the Airborne student paratroopers at Fort Benning. I did this to share the love of Christ with some very scared young men and women. Dee and I then went to the 82nd Airborne Division to do more jumping and to go into combat with these wonderful soldiers in Grenada. I strongly feel God was with us through all those times and 156 jumps. If we really knew. If we could truly fathom the depths of how much He loves us and protects us, we would never want to sin again. I don't think our finite minds could comprehend it all. We can in part fathom His death on the cross which has become for the believer, not only our salvation, but our rallying point for the future. If we really knew!!
