Drug treatment
and prevention advocates in Fulton County are organizing a spring conference
to explore the newest strategies and help improve service delivery.
Representatives
from programs operated by clinics, the courts, churches, universities
and grassroots groups will conduct "Drug Summit 2001: Building
Coalitions for a Drug-Free Community" at The Carter Center April
26.
Convened
through collaboration with the Fulton County Department of Mental Health,
Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse, the summit will feature workshops
on proven methods, social and psychological challenges that affect success
or failure, the role of the clergy and the courts, and partnerships.
Persons as
diverse as former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Louis
R. Sullivan, Georgia Department of Human Resources acting Commissioner
Gary B. Redding, and Atlanta Community Court Judge William F. Riley
Jr. are on the agenda.
Registration
brochures are being mailed to practitioners, government officials and
organizations interested in starting drug treatment or prevention programs.
Space is limited, so pre-registration is mandatory. The deadline to
