Growth near
the South Fulton Parkway is starting to move forward.
Last week,
the Fulton County Commission gave approval to a 600-home development
near the parkway called Cedar Grove.
The development
features single-family homes, and Commissioner Bill Edwards said the
development was approved only after the developers and residents near
the property met.
"We
sent them in the back room and they finally agreed on what the development
should look like," Edwards said.
The residents
got the developers to agree to build the homes with at least three sides
bricked.
But the fulton
County Commission was not so charitable with other developers who wanted
to build in unincorporated South Fulton County.
"We
turned down a project on Will Lee Road. They wanted to build 45 homes,
but it just wasn't right for the area," Edwards said.
The commissioner
is encouraged by the number of developers who are looking at South Fulton,
but said other considerations need to be discussed.
"We
need to also be talking about quality of life issues. It doesn't do
any good to build a $300,000 home on a landfill," he said.
Edwards chaired
a meeting Tuesday night (see related story) to address such issues as
traffic, health and other quality of life issues.
