The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and what better way to celebrate than with a stellar summer concert series, the first part of which was announced last Friday.

The Webb, Lindsey, Collins, Jones and Wade Summer Concert Series starts with a bang with Smokey Robinson. Robinson has had 37 Top 40 hits in his illustrious career including "I Second That Emotion," "The Tears of A Clown," and "Crusin." He was awarded a Grammy Living Legend Award, has been inducted in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame as well as the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and has also received the Soul Train Heritage Award and a NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award. Robinson will perform Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21.

The series continues the weekend of May 4 and 5 with Sergio Mendes and Brasil 2000. The band achieved the most success in 1968 when it scored three Top 20 hits, two of which broke into the Top 10. "The Look of Love" reached number four and "Fool On The Hill" reached number six, while the group's recording of "Scarborough Fair" reached 18 on the charts.

Sergio Mendes and Brasil 2000 blend bossa nova and samba percussion accents with two female singers singing in a unified lead vocal. The group has expanded and experimented over the years, still performing the jazz samba stylings, as well as exploring Bahian hip hop.

The Smothers Brothers, appearing May 18 and 19, are known for their blend of comedic and musical talents. The pair has been featured on television, in the 1960s and 1980s, as well as on numerous other programs and talk shows. They tour almost nonstop and headline in Las Vegas and have a hot selling video. The Museum of Broadcasting in New York City has produced a retrospective and seminar on their work and they also have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tom, famous for his yo-yo tricks, is also an avid golfer who has appeared in a number of celebrity pro-ams. Dick is also an avid golfer and tennis player and should feel right at home in Peachtree City.

June starts nicely with Paul Anka performing June 1 and 2. Anka recently released his 124th album, "Anka Live 2000." He has been in show business for 40 years and is known as one of the greatest songwriters in history. He has had a record on the Billboard Top 50 charts for five consecutive decades and has 900 songs to his credit. Some of his more famous hits include "Put Your Head on My Shoulder," "My Way," and "For Once In My Life."

Anka was recently inducted in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame of Popular Music.

The first part of the summer concert series ends June 18 and 19 with a very popular act, The Drifters. The Drifters formed in 1953 and recorded a number of hits including "This Magic Moment," "Under the Boardwalk," and "Save The Last Dance For Me."

Though Bill Pinkney is the only surviving member of the original group, the band still draws a crowd and has been hailed as "the best act of its genre on the music scene today." The group still takes time out from touring to record new songs. Some of their current singles include "Move Across The River," "She Felt So Good," and "That Same Old Candle Light."

All shows begin at 8 p.m. Series tickets are $100 for the five-concert package. Series ticket holders have the first opportunity to renew tickets through March 23. Tickets go on sale to the public Wednesday, March 28 at 9 a.m. Individual tickets, if there are any remaining, will go on sale Tuesday, April 10.

Ticket prices will be between $25 and $35. There is a $3 handling fee for all orders. Call 770-631-0630.
