Don't build TDK Blvd. and ruin rural Coweta

It is rare that I write my concerns to the newspaper, as I usually present them in person at the Peachtree City Council meetings. However, since I will not be able to attend the meeting March 15 at 5:30 p.m., and since I feel that it is important for the citizens of Peachtree City to understand what is being proposed, I hope that you receive this in time to print it before that meeting.

I wish to express my emphatic objection to the extension of TDK Boulevard into what is now a rural part of Coweta County, opening it to development and changing its nature forever.

It has become clear to everyone that one of the biggest threats to the pleasure of living in Peachtree City has become the increase in traffic, especially along the Ga. highways 74 and 54 corridor and most urgently at the Hwy. 74-54 intersection. It is, therefore, unbelievable and unconscionable that a project is in the works that will, without a doubt, add to the present traffic nightmare there.

When I first objected to the creation of this road, I was told that it would give access from Coweta County to the PTC industrial park, thus relieving Hwy. 54, as though all of the commuters who will use the road will have the industrial park as their destination.

When I asked one of our hired transportation experts from Dames and Moore about the potential of this road, he confirmed my concerns.

The high density residential development that will inevitably occur (speculators are already buying land there in anticipation) as a result of the creation of this road will negatively impact Peachtree City highways 74 and 54, as all the many new residents, and others, use it to access Hwy. 74 and go north to get to the Home Depot, the Wal-Mart, the shopping centers, the restaurants, Interstate 85, etc., greatly exacerbating, rather than alleviating, traffic problems.

Despite the strong opposition to the impact that Wal-Mart and Home Depot would have on our city, citizens were told that we have to accept it, because we could not have legally denied them. I am now asking that this road, that would increase that impact, NOT be built.
