Local track teams perform well at The Dome

Several local high schools sent representatives to the Georgia High School indoor championships last weekend and the results were good.

Starr's Mill's Reuben Houston placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 48'11.75". That jump has him currently ranked second in the nation.

Other solid performers for Starr's Mill included senior Les Page, who placed seventh in the 800 meter with a time of 2:03.63, and senior Ashley Meredith, who placed 11th in the 3,000 meter with a time of 12:30.56. Both the boys and girls 4x400 meter relay teams also finished well. The girls placed 24th with a time of 4:30.60, while the boys placed 30th with a time of 3:39.43.

Fayette County had a number of competitors do well also. Trey Alverson placed third in the mile for the boys with a time of 4:29.96 while Megan Byrd placed second in the high jump with a jump of 5'04.00. Junior Margaret Sams placed 10th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:43.60, while senior Jessica Tyre placed 11th in the mile with a time of 5:54.17.

Sandy Creek got a solid performance from Quentin Dulaney who placed 10th in the long jump with a jump of 20'10.00 and placed 11th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.25. The Sandy Creek girls placed 14th in the 1,600 meter sprint medley with a time of 4:42.10. McIntosh's Sean Heaton was a top performer, placing second in the pole vault with a vault of 14'00.

Landmark Christian had two top ten finishers in the 3,000 meter; Clark Rivers, who placed fifth with a time of 9:15.75, and Blake Fertitta, who placed seventh with a time of 9:28.79. Landmark's Joseph Register placed eighth in the pole vault with a vault of 12'00, while the 4x400 meter relay team placed 24th with a time of 3:38.02.

In upcoming track events, Starr's Mill will host East Coweta and Stockbridge today at 4:30 p.m. and will host Riverdale, Forest Park and Newnan on Saturday. McIntosh will host the McIntosh Relays all day on Saturday.
