Wednesday, March 7, 2001 Doster celebrate 51st Sabine and Jim Doster met in Germany in 1946. Jim was in the Army, and was introduced to Sabine, who is from Estonia, through mutual friends. They began dating, and after a four-year courtship they married Feb. 18, 1950. The duo celebrated their 51st anniversary last month with over 100 friends and relatives. The two are still smiling at each other after close to 55 years, so whoever introduced them has every reason to be happy with their matchmaking skills. Jim, originally from Donalsonville, Georgia, joined the Army after finishing high school. After a 7-year stint in Germany, 3 years in Korea and a few other stops after the war, he retired twenty-plus years later as a Chief Warrant Officer. The couple then moved back to the family farm in Donalsonville that had been waiting on him during his military career. They farmed the 350-acre spread until recently, when they moved into Ashley Glen Assisted Living to be close to their son, Jim Jr., who manages the farm for them in addition to working at the airport and living in Peachtree City. Jim Jr. is married and has two sons, Alexander and Jim III. Alexander is in college in Boise, Jim III in Colorado. Sabine has two children from a previous marriage, Reno Roop and Marika Nurk. Reno is a stage actor and is married to Margie. Marika and husband Glen live in Northbrook, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. Jim Sr. quipped that when the family all gets together it sounds like the United Nations. Jim Jr.'s wife is Korean, and both of Sabine's children from her first marriage speak fluent Estonian and German.
