Church moves into new era
On Sunday, February 25th, Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church marked its ground breaking for its new Sanctuary Complex. The entire morning was dedicated to this special event where around 300 member and guests attended. Of course, that particular morning was exactly the time that a very wet cold front was moving through the area bringing lots of wind and rain. So, with the help of some of the church's youth, and a few wheelbarrows, the ground was brought inside the current Sanctuary where song and prayer and the dedication took place. Pastor Doug Griffith noted "If we can't get to the ground, we'll bring the ground to us!" With the words "we are to begin construction immediately on our new Sanctuary Complex, which is being built for the purpose of declaring the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for the advancement of His Kingdom and for His Glory " the ceremony was successfully concluded indoors. Special guests included representatives from Group VI Corporation, the contractor of the project, as well as the architect, Foley Design and Associates. BB&T (Branch Bank and Trust) was also represented and will help finance the endeavor. Another special guest, Mrs. Judy Massey, a member of the previous church that worshipped there ten years ago, told an interesting story of how Carriage Lane came to acquire their present sanctuary structure and her prayerful connection with it. The church, which now has an attendance of over 300 people, has been planning this expansion for a number of years. The complex will feature a new sanctuary, new administration and educational space, and a remodeling of its existing building to match the new structure. The 7.5-acre property, which also contains an existing facility for youth and fellowship activities, has been home to the church for ten years. Carriage Lane is located at the corner of Highway 54 and Carriage Lane.
