Coaches in attendance were "Large" Charles Winslette, Jim Waller, Jimmy Howard, Glenn Walker, Larry Nash, Gary Phillips (current principal of the school), and Trigg Dalrymple. It was also the second annual Distinguished Alumni/Community Service Awards. The 2001 honorees were the late Lorrelle McElwaney Trammell, Fayette County High School class of 1926, and Walter Frank Reeves, class of 1969. Trammell was honored for her many years of involvement in community service. She was also the 1976 Citizen of the Year in Fayette County. She died in January 2000. Walter Reeves has become known as "Mr. Gardner," has co-written "Georgia's Gardener's Guide," which has sold more copies than any other Georgia gardening book. He has received numerous awards for his work. He is best know for his quote, "All this from a young man who swore if he could get off the farm (in Inman) he would never garden again."
