Waltrip to speak at local banquet next weekend Three-time Winston Cup champion and current FOX-TV NASCAR broadcaster Darrell Waltrip will speak to an expected crowd of more than 2,000 people at the second annual Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church Men's Ministry NASCAR Banquet. This year's theme is "the making of a champion." Waltrip retired from racing in November after amassing more than $19 million in career earnings. Known for his quick wit and strong faith, Waltrip's winsome personality has transcended racing circles so well that he enjoyed a long run in a popular Wendy's commercial last year and was quickly signed by FOX as a color commentator for its inaugural season of NASCAR coverage. Waltrip was a professional race car driver for 29 years, participating in 808 races. He recorded 84 wins, 276 top-five finishes and 390 top-tens. He was two-time Most Popular Driver and won the most famous race of all, The Daytona 500. Waltrip will appear at the banquet during Cracker Barrel 500 weekend March 8 at 7 p.m. The event will be at Peachtree Peddlers Flea Market Showcase Event Centre at exit 221 on I-75 in McDonough. The banquet also will feature live music, comedy and dozens of door prizes. General admission tickets are on sale for $10 at the church office. Tickets also will be sold Saturday, March 3, at the Peachtree Peddlers Flea Market. |
