Southside Seals ain't just whistling Dixie The Southside Seals continued their growth as a major Georgia team with impressive swims at the USMS Dixie Zone Championships in Auburn Feb. 16-17. Two Seals swimmers joined over 200 other Southeastern swimmers to compete for individual titles and team awards. Steve McDonald, in the men's 40-44 age group, continued to improve with personal best times enroute to a fifth place in the 200-yd. breaststroke, sixth in the 100-yd. freestyle, and seventh in the 100-yd. breaststroke. Karol Welling celebrated her first meet since moving up to the women's 40-44 age group with four individual Dixie Zone championships. Welling took first place in the 50-and 200-yd. backstroke, 100-yd. freestyle, and the 100-yd. breaststroke. In addition, she earned four second place finishes (500-yd. freestyle, 50-yd. butterfly, 200-yd. breaststroke, and 200-yd. individual medley) and one third place finishe (100-yd. individual medley). McDonald and Welling also swam on a third place Team Georgia 35+ freestyle relay. The Southside Seals is a member club of United States Masters Swimming and is open to adults over 19. Swimmers of all skill levels are welcome including competitive swimmers, triathletes and fitness swimmers. Practices are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. at Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City. |
