Company helps train youth leaders in transportation arena

Strengthening its role as a leader in the Fayette County community as well as in the transportation community, SMC3 sponsored a business segment of the Fayette County Youth Leadership Program.

As a sponsor of the program, SMC3 offered the youth of Fayette County an understanding of the firm's business model and role within the transportation software industry.

Hosting 25 local high school students, SMC3 provided a forum to enlighten students on the intricacies of the transportation environment and opportunities within the industry.

Led by the firm's executive director of industry and educational services, John Rader, the group discussed the history of the transportation industry and how it has evolved into a dynamic truck, rail, ocean and air network.

Danny Slaton, vice president of sales and marketing, continued with a discussion on the importance of supply chain management and issues industry professionals face.

Slaton demonstrated how SMC3 has converted many antiquated, manual processes to more efficient software applications. He enlightened attendees on the role software developers have in creating more efficient ways to handle routine functions with higher accuracy.

The Fayette County Youth Leadership Program, organized by the Fayette County Development Authority and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, is designed to build the foundation for future leadership within the community.

Modeled after similar programs around the state, team members meet with local business and industry professionals to bridge local businesses with the school system to better address the workforce needs and other vital issues.

"We are proud to be a sponsor of The Fayette County Development Authority and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce's Youth Leadership Program. These organizations have collaborated in an extraordinary way," commented Rader.

Rader continued, "This is a unique opportunity for students to learn about their community, while building team and leadership skills. Having face-to-face interaction with so many professionals is an extremely valuable learning opportunity for these students. These students are the community leaders of the future."
