Kick it into Hyperdrive: Atlanta based Christian band to perform at Fayette Community Church

The Christian music scene is currently exploding faster than any form of popular music. Bands are constantly writing new material, recording CD's and putting together extensive tours to build a following and spread the word of God.

One such band is Hyperdrive, an Atlanta based band, that will play Fayette Community Church Saturday night.

The band began to form in 1994 at Georgia State University and has added members through 1998. Hyperdrive consists of Gary Teal on drums, Joey Garvey on vocals and guitar, Jesse Hardin on guitar, Chris Andrews on bass and Chuck Bell on keyboards.

When the band isn't touring, Teal runs his own regional touring production company, 24-7 Live. Garvey is a registered nurse at Grady Hospital in Atlanta and Bell is the music minister for Ebenezer Methodist Church.

The band began recording their independent release "building the buzz" in 1999. They worked with Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer and John Catchings, a cellist who has worked with Jewel, on their ballad "Whisper To Me." The album infuses many different styles of music and sounds, including tribal sounds on "Land of Hum" and funky grooves on "Superman."

Hyperdrive serves up a fresh alternative in the Christian music scene, which too often mimics what is popular in secular circles and drowns out the message. In their press bio they say that their coming together as musicians and brothers in Christ was not by chance, but rather ordained by God. It is their prayer that others may hear of God's amazing love in their music and experience His never-failing grace in their daily lives.

Hyperdrive, presented by The Breakaway Student Ministry of Fayette Community Church, will play at Fayette Community Church on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., $5. For more information on the show visit www.fayettecommunity.org or call 770-461-1756.
