Plenty of Pickin' and Grinnin' at the Fifth Annual Country Concert for Fayette Senior Services

Country music fans will have something to cheer about this weekend, the Fifth Annual Country Music Concert benefitting Fayette Senior Services returns to Sams Auditorium Saturday night. The concert will feature an assortment of local musicians and singers, as well as door prizes and give aways. The show will last from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

The show will feature The Allen Goodman Band, which consists of Starr's Mill senior Allen Goodman on keyboards, Jimmy White and Art Thompson of Attina's Music Store on the guitar and drums, and Whitewater Middle School coach Lance Bowen on bass. The band has performed all over the county over the last few years, including the Kiwanis Fair.

The opening act of the show will feature Steve Geis on steel guitar and Debbie Clanton on keyboard, along with Reid Williams on bass, Tom Pike on guitar and Wally Panotich on drums. Other performers at the concert will be vocalist Debbie Walker with her two daughters Susanne and Molly, and Clanton's children, Andy and Melissa, joining their mother in a family presentation. Dian Caldwell, a fifth-grade teacher at Brooks Elementary, will sing a Patsy Cline-style repertoire amd J.J. Cox of Griffin will also sing.

The concert is organized by Harold Joyner, a retired Delta Air Lines assistant vice president, and other members of the Board of Directors from Fayette Senior Services. The show also receives help from the Metro Fayette Kiwanis Club.

"We're very excited about this year's concert,' explains Joyner. "Our area is overflowing with great talent and a forum like this is a great opportunity to showcase these promising musicians. I'll put our talent up against the record labels any day."

Fayette Senior Services has been serving senior citizens in Fayette County for over 20 years. The most well known program is the Home Delivered meals Program, but other services include an Adult Day Care Center Program with meals held at the Friendship Center; Friendly Visitor, Homemmaker Services and Personal Care; Case Management Services and the active senior group, the J.O.Y. Club.

"We're trying to stay updated with the changing needs of the senior population," explained Andy Carden, Executive Director of Fayette Senior Services. "This benefit concert is one way we can get the funds necessary to remain current with our programs."

Tickets for the concert are $7 for adults at the door or $5 in advance and $3 for children. Groups or individuals interested in attending the concert can purchase tickets in advance by calling Fayette Senior Services at 770-461-0813 or Harold Joyner at 770-461-8970.
