Remember Sen. Hecht
for changing Ga. flag
I've noticed a couple of articles over the last few issues of The Citizen and other local papers recently commenting on how well state Senator Greg Hecht is doing in the Georgia Legislature this session. "Hecht bills moving right along" is the title of one such article in The Citizen of Feb. 14. But before the praise of Sen. Hecht becomes too enthusiastic, it should be recalled, by those who care about these sort of things, that Sen. Greg Hecht voted to change the state flag of Georgia. I think this is an important point to remember regarding Sen. Hecht because in my view the state flag did not need to be changed and I both wrote and called Sen. Hecht's staff to express my views on this matter. For Gov. Roy Barnes and the legislature to have railroaded the citizens of Georgia the way they did by coming up with this ridiculous new flag was wrong and the state senators and representatives who voted to change the flag were wrong also. By creating the new Georgia state flag Roy Barnes and his cohorts in the House and Senate betrayed the people of Georgia, many of who were and remain opposed to any change in the Georgia state flag. So I just wanted to remind the readers of The Citizen and other local papers that no matter what else Sen. Greg Hecht does this legislative session his vote to change the state flag of Georgia was, in my view, again, a betrayal of the faith and confidence the good people of his district placed in him. I hope that people remember who voted to change the state and also who didn't and also remember Greg Hecht's sellout of their interests. Dennis Sams Fairburn
