Family very happy with kitchen remodeling

"I've waited 23 years for this," said Pat Ormsby of Peachtree City, who has just gotten her "dream kitchen" through the efforts of Peachtree City-based M Cubed Building Services.

According to Mrs. Ormsby, the Ormsby family had a large kitchen in Iowa before they moved to Peachtree City 23 years ago, but the home they purchased in Peachtree City contained a kitchen much smaller than she preferred.

The decision to go for a "dream kitchen" came when her husband Bob decided to have a detached garage built and utilize the home's existing garage primarily for storage space.

"At first I said this was OK with me as long as I got half the existing garage to store my Christmas things and other stuff," said Mrs. Ormsby. "Then Bob and I decided this might be a good time to do something with the kitchen."

After getting estimates, the Ormsbys decided to go with M3, the remodelers who had done a master bath upgrade for them a year ago.

"I'm thrilled with the result," said Mrs. Ormsby. "The way they decided to do the project is so much better than going out in the other direction and expanding the old kitchen outward at the back of the house. Also, [M3 partner[ Todd Melzer is really particular about the work being done right, and I like that."

There's an emphasis on white and gray in the new kitchen and breakfast area, and Mrs. Ormsby is working with a designer to bring in some brighter colors with window dressings, chair pads, etc.

Dave Marvin, the other M3 partner, explained that the kitchen/breakfast area is now an "L" shape. He said that the remodeling project involved moving the kitchen into an area which formerly was storage at the rear of the garage, moving the wall out three feet to provide more room for the new kitchen.

The breakfast room is now where the old kitchen was located; the access from the house to the garage/storage area has been moved to the utility room; the water heater was moved from the utility room to the garage/storage space; and a bathroom with a Moen Monticello widespread spout and Kohler Portrait fixtures was added to the utility room area.

Calling the completed kitchen a "showpiece", Marvin outlined the details of the project, as follows:

The backsplash in the kitchen is comprised of 62X62 Excavare "Charcoal" and Excavare "Talc" with with charcoal grout, matching the tile floor, which utilizes that same materials in 122X122 sizes.

The Corian countertop, Sierra1s "Dusk" series, is used throughout the kitchen.

The walls are painted with Benjamin Moore's "Seattle Gray." The ceilings have a smooth finish and recessed lighting.

The faucet in the kitchen double sink is the Moen PureTouch. It is a pullout faucet with three-way operation: aerated stream for everyday use; wide, forceful spray for fast kitchen cleanup; and filtered water for drinking.

The kitchen cabinets are area wood painted with high gloss white with polished brass "pulls". There are glass doors on three cabinets.

All kitchen appliances were replaced with the exception of the refrigerator. The new appliances include 302 built-in, white-on-white KitchenAide Superba microwave and convection ovens; 302 four-zone, electric KitchenAide radiant elements; and a 302 KitchenAide Slide-out ventilation hood with a cooktop light and a three-speed centrifugal fan.

The breakfast area has a ceiling fan, as well as a built-in work area and large desk with room for a computer. A six-ft. sliding glass door with a screen was added, as well as two 362 windows overlooking the Flat Creek Club golf course.

Other doors and windows across the rear of the house were replaced to match the ones installed during the renovation project.

The M3 offices, including the company's design center, are located at 103 Auburn Court, Suite 5, in Peachtree City. The telephone number is 770-631-3188, and more information about the company can be obtained on the internet at www.mcubedbuildingservices.com.
