The regular season of high school basketball is nearing its end.

Local teams faced region opponents Tuesday night with some mixed results.

McIntosh hosted Henry County and both the boys and girls teams won. Both the Lady Chiefs and Lady Warhawks started slowly, scoring only five points apiece in the first quarter. The two teams continued to play solid defense against each other and McIntosh went into the half leading 12-10. The Lady Chiefs out-scored Henry County 13-4 in the third quarter and held on to win 32-19.

Tabitha Lowey was the leading scorer for McIntosh with 15 points, while Lyndsey Murphy added five points.

The boys game was back and forth from the opening tip-off. The Chiefs were down 13-7 at the end of the first quarter but battled back to a two-point deficit at the half. The game continued to go back and forth between the two teams and the score was tied 66-66 with a little over a minute left. The two teams ended regulation tied and entered overtime.

Josh Burr hit two free throws in the first overtime and a key three pointer and two free throws in the second to help lead the team to a 79-75 victory. He finished the night with 32 points, while Marquis Griffith added 12 points and Scott Prah added seven points and four steals. McIntosh will host Lovejoy tonight.

Starr's Mill faced Morrow Tuesday night and both the boys and girls teams lost. The boys were down 14-4 early in the first quarter but battled back on the strength of three straight three pointers by Gary Kubik to end the first quarter down 22-20.

The teams stayed close in the second quarter and the Panthers went into the half down 36-34. Morrow opened up the third quarter with a 17-0 run and kept Starr's Mill at a distance until the beginning of the fourth quarter when the panthers went on a 14-0 run. Ultimately, it wasn't enough and Morrow won 75-64. Jason Laney led the team in scoring with 21 points, while Gary Kubik added 14 points.

The girls lost to Morrow 56-48. Stephanie Gresham and Ashley Ward each scored 12 points, but the team was out-rebounded 17-6, which helped create Morrow's lead. The Lady Panthers are 15-5 overall and 8-3 in the region. Starr's Mill will host East Coweta tonight.
