Intergalactic
Bead Show returns to Georgia By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Are you passionate for beads? If so, you'll want to head out to Jim Miller Park at the North Georgia Fairgrounds for the Intergalactic Bead Show. More than 40 vendors from 14 states will be on hand with extraordinary displays of ancient, antique, vintage and modern handmade beads for sale. The Atlanta Bead Society also will be present, supplying information and conducting a membership drive. The society is celebrating its 10th year of existence this year and the festival is the centerpiece of its fund-raising and membership drive. There will be bead-making demonstrations, identification, bead history lectures and appraisals during the weekend-long festival. Society members also will display a dazzling array of beaded objects using various beading techniques, including traditional bead jewelry, time-consuming bead projects and whimsical sculptures created entirely of beads. An interesting mix of history and art, the Intergalactic Bead Show will feature 80 tables representing the finest bead vendors. Festival organizer Christopher England explains why beads are enjoying a resurgence in popularity. "Beads are enjoying unprecedented interest because of their diverse appeal. Beaders come from all backgrounds and let everyone make a fashion statement." The show will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m,. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for both days.
