If you have been following the high school wrestling season, this is a big weekend for you. Starting tonight at 5 p.m. and continuing tomorrow, the area meets will be held all over the state and the top four wrestlers from each weight class in the meets will advance to the state meet.

The gym at Fayette County High School will be the site of the 4-AAAAA area meet. Sixteen schools will be competing, including East Coweta, Fayette County, McIntosh and Starr's Mill.

Starr's Mill, currently ranked second, won the area and state championships last year and is a strong contender for a title this year as well. There will be a lot of competition in both meets this year, including the teams from Troup County, Stockbridge, and Eagle's Landing.

The 4-AAAA meet will be held at Sandy Creek High School tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. and will feature teams from Woodward Academy, Creekside, Heritage and Sandy Creek High School. The competition will be fierce and each match will be of the greatest importance as the wrestlers battle for a state meet bid.

Landmark Christian is the top-ranked wrestling program in Class A and will be competing in their area meet this weekend as well. The meet will be held at Bremen High School. Some of their local wrestlers include Jeremy Brown and Adam Lewis of Sharpsburg, Ethan Everett of Newnan, Eric Sumner of Peachtree City and Daniel Solly and Nick Taussig of Fayetteville. Northgate High School's wrestling team is ranked seventh in Class AA and will compete in the 5-AA area meet at Callaway this weekend.
