Offshoot to offer acting classes for Community School program

Offshoot Productions once again offers a variety of acting classes for children, teens and adults through the Fayette Community School program at the LaFayette Educational Center, 205 LaFayette Ave., Fayetteville.

"Making a Scene," for teens in grades six through 12, meets Mondays, Feb. 5 to March 19, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. for $40. Using both improvised and scripted scenes, this acting class provides a step-by-step approach to making scenes really come alive. There is no class Feb. 19.

"Taking Stage II," designed for adults and teens 16 and older, will be Mondays, Feb. 5 to March 19, from 7:45 - 9 p.m. This class, which costs $42, focuses on performing scenes from modern American plays and includes work on character development, the relationship between actors, and creating "the illusion of the first time." Again, there's no class Feb. 19.

"Getting into the Act," for youngsters in grades one and two, is offered Tuesdays, March 6 - 27, from 3:15 - 4 p.m. Children enrolled in this class will learn stage basics while enjoying theater games and imaginative improvisations. The fee is $25.

"Creating Characters," for children in grades three through five, meets Wednesdays, Feb. 14 through March 21, from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. and costs $40. Here kids will explore the ways in which they can use their voices and bodies to create compelling stage characters. At the final session, participants will demonstrate acting exercises and scenes for invited guests. This course may be taken several times, as its content is always changing.

A class especially for home schoolers, "Acting Basics," will be Tuesdays, March 6 - March 27, from 2 - 3 p.m. Geared to ages 7 to 11, the class costs $28. Participants become comfortable on stage as they learn how to create characters, analyze a scene, and work with partners.
