Big League baseball is coming back.

No, not the big league baseball that pays players more money than the annual budget of Rhode Island, but the Big League baseball that offers a spring and fall season to players ages 16-18 in Fayette, Clayton, Coweta and Henry counties.

Registration for the 2001 season has begun and is open to players who will be at least 16 years old and no older than 18 years old by July 31. Teams formed will play in Fayette, Coweta, Douglas and DeKalb counties.

There will be a minimum of 12 games scheduled to begin May 6 and run through the end of June. Games will be Sunday doubleheaders at various locations. Players must provide their own transportation to and from practices and games.

There will be an All Star team formed at the conclusion of the spring season and Peachtree City will host the Big League tournament beginning July 14. The Big League program is also expanding this year to include players from Pike, Butts, Upson, Spalding, Lamar, Heard, Carroll, and Meriwether counties.

For more information and to sign up, call Linda North, district administrator, at 770-487-8081. Registrations need to be completed no later than April 12. Registrants must show a certified copy of a birth certificate and legal proof of residency.
