The Tyrone Youth Baseball Association is getting a new baseball park just off Ga. Highway 74 at Tyrone and Handley Road.

Phase one of the 41-acre complex will have five new fields for pre-T-ball through the 15- to 16-year-old age group. Saturday morning, TYBA had a tree planting ceremony at the site of the new fields.

Two of the fields will be ready for play this spring. The process started last fall with the irrigation and power being installed. They have put the gravel in the parking lot and have also put up the fencing. The group has raised money for the fields through an assortment of fund-raisers and are looking for corporations to make donations to the complex.

The TYBA is a member of the American Amateur Baseball Congress and provides a two-league system. The competitive league is eligible for post-season tournaments and may travel to other parks. The recreational league provides fundamental instruction and an All-Star tournament at the end of the season.

They also have an interlocking schedule with the Fayette County Baseball Association and all teams play at both Tyrone and Fayetteville parks. This is also the first year that Tyrone baseball will welcome players from Fulton and Coweta counties.

Registration for spring baseball will be at the large concession stand in the ball park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10 and from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. The fee for pre-T-ball is $30, $110 for T-ball (5- to 6-year-olds) and 7-8, $120 for 9-10 and 11-12, $135 for 13-14 and $150 for 15-16. There is a family cap of $300, but this does not apply to any 15- to 16-year-old players.
