Fayette County High School was the setting of the first ever Fayette-Henry Duals last Saturday.

Stockbridge, Henry County, Eagle's Landing and Union Grove High School sent their wrestling teams to compete against Fayette County, McIntosh, Starr's Mill and Northgate. Sandy Creek had already committed to wrestle in the Chattahoochee Invitational over the weekend and could not attend the duals.

Fayette County beat Henry County in the meet and Starr's Mill was the only school to go 4-0. Fayette County and McIntosh went 1-3, while Stockbridge and Northgate went 3-1. The Fayette teams won by a total of 80 points and the trophy will be kept at Fayette County High School until next year's meet.

The closest match of the tournament was the match between Stockbridge and Starr's Mill, two contenders for the region and state titles. The Panthers won the match 46-29, but the Tigers forfeited three weight classes, something that is unlikely at the region tournament.

Starr's Mill will wrestle at Alexander High School tonight against Alexander, Douglas County and Lithia Springs. the meet will begin at 5:30 p.m. Starr's Mill will host the Panther Duals at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Fayette County defeated Union Grove 42-34 but lost a close one to Eagle's Landing 35-34. The Tigers were also defeated by Henry County 42-30 and Stockbridge 48-26.

James Bouie (275), Matt Kellerman (125), Paul Gable(135) and Stephen McElrath (112) all went 3-1 at the meet. The Tigers were also without Chris Leslie who is out with a knee injury.

McIntosh defeated Union Grove 42-36, but lost to Stockbridge 52-19. The Chiefs got a solid performance from Josh Allison who went 3-1 at the meet and David Lee who wrestled well in the 103 weight class.

The Chiefs will wrestle again on Thursday when they travel to take on Pike County at 5:30 p.m. McIntosh will wrestle Saturday at Shiloh at 6 p.m.

Sandy Creek, which wrestled at the Chattahoochee Invitational and finished outside of the top finishers, did get a great performance from Kedric Golston in the heavyweight division. Golston finished in second place, continuing an outstanding season for a first year wrestler.

Sandy Creek will wrestle Clarke Central and Madison at Clarke Central High School in Athens Friday night. The matches are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
