The high school basketball season is a few weeks away from the region tournaments and each game is more important than the last as teams jockey for seeding.

McIntosh began a five-game homestand last Friday night, as they hosted Eagle's Landing. The Chiefs lost to the Golden Eagles 52-48. McIntosh was down 25-19 at the half but continued to shoot poorly and turn the ball over.

Josh Burr led the team in scoring with 17 points, while Jared McWilliams added seven.

On Saturday, the Chiefs faced Starr's Mill and won 69-57. McIntosh struggled with their shooting in the first quarter as the Panthers jumped out to a 17-6 lead. The two teams were tied after the third quarter at 45 points a piece and McIntosh exploded in the fourth quarter.

McIntosh went to the foul line 48 times Saturday and connected on 32 of their free throws. Burr led the team in scoring with 28 points, while Drew Hartley added 10 and Kyle Schisler added nine.

The Lady Chiefs dropped both of their games over the weekend, losing to Eagle's Landing 38-37 and to Starr's Mill 40-33. McIntosh will host Mt. Zion of Jonesboro Friday night.

Sandy Creek hosted Rockdale Friday and traveled to Woodward Academy Saturday. The Patriots handled Rockdale 72-56. Kevin Craig led Sandy Creek in scoring with 15 points, while L.T. Lockett and William Belton each added 14 points.

Rockdale's Brandon Childs led all scorers with 35 points, but the next highest scorer on the team had six.

"We played good defense and had balanced scoring," said Coach Rick Francis. "If we get that kind of productivity from everybody each night, we'll be O.K."

The Patriots' game against Woodward was closer, but Sandy Creek won 57-51. The Patriots held on to the ball for close to six minutes in the third quarter and only scored four points in the quarter. Belton led Sandy Creek in scoring with 21 points, while Lockett added 17 and Corey Adams added nine.

"It's nice to have different people stepping up," said Francis. "As we head into the playoffs we need more productivity from our bench."

The Lady Patriots lost to Rockdale 53-38. Tiffany Paschal led Sandy Creek with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Susan Clough contributed 11 points and seven rebounds while Racine Francis scored nine points and six rebounds.

"We played them close and should have won," said Coach Mark DeCourcy. "We made 32 turnovers though and didn't take care of the basketball. It was our downfall against Woodward as well."

The Lady Patriots lost to Woodward Academy 65-34. Paschal had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the game.

Sandy Creek's girls team is dealing with some injuries currently. Point guard Jessica Demooney did not play over the weekend but should be back for Saturday's game against Starr's Mill. Maya Hughes will be out for the remainder of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

In other action this weekend, Fayette County's boys and girls basketball teams played Mt. Zion Friday. The girls won 42-26, while the boys lost 87-37.

Kara Davis led the girls with 15 points while Tiffany Norris chipped in seven. The Lady Tigers are currently 9-9 and 3-5 in the region.
