Peachtree City's TDk is honored by the EPA for environmental policy
BY PAT NEWMAN
TDK Components USA, Inc. in Peachtree City has been selected by the Environmental Protection Agency as one of 43 southeastern charter members in the National Environmental Achievement Track, a program that recognizes and rewards businesses for exceeding environmental protection requirements. According to the EPA's Becky Allenbach, this program recognizes businesses that go above and beyond the standards set by the EPA. Over a two-year period, TDK reduced its metal hydroxide (filter cake sludge), which is considered a hazardous waste, from 2,000 pounds to 650 pounds, Allenbach said. The company also chose to send it to a metals recycling facility. "TDK also reduced methanol waste by 75 percent and in the future has committed to recycling copper waste," she said. William Nutt, TDK's senior manager for administration, purchasing and environmental management systems, said making environmental improvements through decreased waste ultimately saves money and is easy to do. "Intuitively, people feel good about it," he said. |
