McIntosh wins again, begins five game homestand tonight

McIntosh's boys and girls basketball teams traveled to East Coweta High School Tuesday night and achieved a split.

The Lady Chiefs lost to the Lady Indians 58-40. They were led in scoring by Stacey Quinn, who netted 14 points. Lindsay Murphy contribued six points.

It was a different story for the boys team. The Chiefs won 66-56. They played tight defense as usual, holding the Indians to five points in the first quarter and seven points in the third quarter.

Josh Burr had another excellent game, scoring 24 points. Drew Hartley added 11 points and Kasey Kozak chipped in eight points.

McIntosh begins a five-game homestand tonight as they host Eagle's Landing at 7 p.m. The Chiefs will host Starr's Mill Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Starr's Mill boys basketball team was defeated by the third-ranked North Clayton Eagles 78-57. The Panthers were close at the end of the first quarter, trailing 18-12, but North Clayton expanded its lead to 37-23 at the half. Starr's Mill pulled to 41-30 before North Clayton went on a 15-0 run to put the game away.

Che Brewer led the team with 10 points, Bret Zondervan scored nine points, and Partick Keyes and Donny Lampen netted eight points each. Chris Oakley chipped in with six points and two assists.

In last weekend's action, the Panthers split two region games. They were defeated by Mt. Zion 66-55 Friday. Donny Lampen led the Panthers with 15 points, while Bret Zondervan scored nine points and Chris Oakley added eight points.

The team came back Saturday night to defeat East Coweta 53-49. The game was tight throughout until Partick Keyes hit a jumper with 15 seconds left to put the Panthers up for good at 51-49. Donny Lampen's two free throws sealed the victory. Gary Kubik made six three-pointers to lead the Panthers with 18 points, Chris Oakley had 10 points, and Micah Fletcher and Donny Lampen each scored nine points.

Starr's Mill will play at Evans High School tonight, before travelling down the road Saturday to play the Chiefs.

In other basketball games, Sandy Creek will play Rockdale at home tonight and will travel to Woodward Academy Saturday. East Coweta will host Newnan on tonight and Northgate will host Lamar County tonight and Columbus on Saturday. Tonight's gameswill begin at 7 p.m. and games on Saturday begin at 6 p.m.

To get to Woodward from Sandy Creek, take Ga. Hwy 74 to I-85 North to Exit 18-A (Camp Creek Parkway, towards Air Cargo). Merge on to Camp Creek Parkway, then take the ramp to Main Street and merge on to Lee Street. Take a left on Main Street, a right on Harvard Avenue, a left on E. Main and a right on Rugby Avenue.
