Dot Kite is named top business person By CAROLYN
CARY
Local insurance owner Dot Kite was chosen by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce to be its 2000 Business Person of the Year. Last year's winner, Jim Pace, made the presentation. Kite was born and reared in Columbus, Ga. and received her degree in business administration from Columbus College. She was first employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Columbus, working her way to the top as sales producer. She left the company in 1981 to start her own State Farm Insurance agency in Pine Mountain, Ga. She moved to Fayetteville in 1986, took over the insurance agency in Hapeville from a retiring agent and in 1992 purchased land on East Lanier Avenue and built her own office. She originally started with two employees and the company currently has six employees. Of the 18,000 State Farm agents nationally, the top 50 in each line of business, auto, home, life and health, are invited to participate in the State Farm President's Club. She has been a member for the last several years and is now a lifetime member of the club. Very involved with her community, she was a charter member of Fayetteville's Main Street, a charter member of the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary, and is currently a partner in education with East Fayette Elementary School. An alumnus of Leadership Fayette, she has served on several committees of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of its board of directors in 1998. She and husband, Wallace, have two daughters, Deborah and Tammy, who live in Macon, and a grandson, Christian. |
