Important region games for teams this weekend

Though Sunday will be filled with the NFL conference championships, there will be plenty of high school sports action on Friday and Saturday to whet the appetitie of any sports fan.

On Friday, the McIntosh and Fayette County swim teams will meet at the Kedron Aquatic Center. Both teams have a number of excellent swimmers, many of them teammates on club teams. These are two of the tougher teams in Region 4-AAAAA and the action should be fast and furious. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m.

Also on Friday, the Sandy Creek wrestling team will travel to Union Grove High School to take on Union Grove and Salem. Union Grove is in the same position Starr's Mill was in a few years ago. They are a new school without a senior class and have been learning this year by taking their lumps. Sandy Creek is hoping to dish some out on Friday. The meet begins at 5 p.m. Starr's Mill will wrestle in the Dalton Carpet Classic. the meet begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

To get to Union Grove,

For basketball action on Friday, Starr's Mill hosts Mt. Zion, Jonesboro, Fayette County hosts Eagle's Landing, East Coweta hosts Lovejoy, Sandy Creek travels to Creekside and McIntosh travels to Stockbridge. To get to Creekside, travel to Fairburn on Ga. Highway. 74, cross over I-85 and take a right on Ga. Hwy 29. Take a right on Jones River Rd. and then a left on Herndon Rd. The school will be on your right.

To get to Stockbridge High School, Take Ga. Highway 54 north to Jonesboro. Turn left on Tara Blvd. and right on Ga. Highway 138. Go into Stockbridge and turn right at the light directly in front of Wal-mart. Take Hwy. 42/138 a little over a mile, cross the bridge over the railroad tracks and turn left at the light onto East Atlanta Road. Turn right at the first light, which is Old Conyers Road, and Stockbridge High School is on the left. Games begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night with the girls teams playing first.

On Saturday, the McIntosh and Sandy Creek wrestling teams wil wrestle in the Houston City Invitational. Also on Saturday, Starr's Mill's basketball teams play at East Coweta High School and Sandy Creek plays at Northgate.
