High-priced homes slated for Fairburn

By JOHN THOMPSON

Fairburn will soon have a very upscale subdivision.

The fairburn City Council gave its approval to annexing the new Major Manor Estates on V.B. Smith Road. The 11-home subdivision will feature homes priced in the $300's.

Developer Ted Baker has been trying to get property annexed into Fairburn since last year and finally cleared up the property line boundary questions.

"This will be an added attraction and tax base to the city," he said.

Before the city approved the subdivision, resident Tanya Russell asked the council to consider her plight. She had placed a contract on one of the homes to be built in Baker's subdivision late last summer.

But because of the property dispute, her home has not been built.

"I've had many problems getting in touch with Baker," she said.

Construction on the home was to start in October and be completed in December, but nothing has been accomplished.

"I'm not for or against the annexation. I just thought you needed to know this," she said.

The council voted 5-1 to annex the property into the city from unincorporated Fulton County, with Councilman Gene Wiggins voting against it.

City Planner Bill Johnson said the land is no longer suitable for agricultural uses and suggested rezoning it for one-acre lots.

After the annexation vote, the council voted unanimously to rezone the property from AR, agricultural, to R-1, one-acre home lots.
