Bug to save the day at Center for Puppetry Arts By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Mighty Bug! Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes and The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta proves this with their new production, "The Adventures Of Mighty Bug." Mighty Bug is the protector of Bugville, a lush paradise where Morpha Butterfly, Professor Rhinoceros Beetle and other insects live peacefully. Their existence is threatened however by the evil Scorpiana, Mighty Bug's arch nemesis who lives on the spooky side of town. Will Scorpiana defeat Mighty Bug? Will Morpha become Mighty Bug's lady love? What will happen to Professor rhinoceros Beetle? All those questions will be answered in this energetic production. The show, created by Associate Artistic Director Jon Ludwig, uses shadow puppets and sets and is full of music, including the local bug band's boogie woogie sounds. While the visuals in "The Adventures of Mighty Bug" are certainly stunning, the show is also educational, revealing interesting facts about the insect world. In addition to the performances, there is also a Create-A-Puppet Workshop where children ages 5 and up will get to create an "Ants at the Picnic" shadow puppet and learn about the hierarchy of bugs. The workshop is $5 and admits one child and up to two adults. "The Adventures of Mighty Bug" will run through March 17. Showtimes through Feb. 10 are Monday-Friday at 10 and 11:30 a.m.. Saturday at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Showtimes Feb. 12-March 17 are Monday-Friday at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children ages 2-13 and senior citizens. Admission also admits individuals to the Center's permanent Museum. For tickets call 404-873-3391. The Center is located at 1404 Sping St. in Atlanta and is accessible from MARTA.
