"The Wizard of Oz" is one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time.

Written by L. Frank Baum, the story has undergone hundreds of productions, including animated versions, the classic film starring Judy Garland, and many theatrical productions. This week, the tale will come to life once again, as Fayette-Coweta Family Theatre, Inc. will present an original musical version of "The Wizard of Oz" at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville.

The story focuses on Dorothy, a little girl from Kansas, who is magically transported to the land of Oz. There she encounters munchkins, a scarecrow, a tin man, a cowardly lion, the Good Witch of the North and the Not-So-Wicked Witch of the West. Along the way, Dorothy learns valuable lessons about friendship, courage and that home is truly where the heart is.

The show is a wonderful first time theatre experience for children ages 3 to 10 years old and is full of music, fantasy costumes, stage action, humor and lots of audience participation. In fact, one lucky child at each performance will become The Wizard of Oz himself. Children will also get a chance after the show to visit with characters and get their picture taken with them.

Show times are Thursday and Friday, Jan. 11-12, at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door and $4 in advance at the Peachtree City and Fayetteville libraries or by calling 770-251-7611.
