Second half of winter athletic season begins this week

If you are chomping at the bit for the second half of the winter season of high school athletics, fear not, the basketball, wrestling and swimming seasons get back underway this weekend.

On the basketball courts, Sandy Creek starts up on Friday with a home game against Union Grove at 7 p.m. They will travel to take on the Westlake Lions at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Starr's Mill will host the Fayette County boys and girls teams on Friday night at 7 p.m. McIntosh's boys and girls will host East Coweta on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.

In wrestling, McIntosh will travel to Perry, Ga. for the Perry Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Action begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Starr's Mill will also be on the road this weekend as they travel to Hoover, Ala. for the Hoover Invitational. Both meets will be pre-cursors for the County Duals, which will be held at Sandy Creek High School on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 5 p.m.

McIntosh's swim team will travel to Heritage High School on Saturday for a tri-meet at 1 p.m. They will host Fayette County High School at the Kedron Aquatic Center on Friday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Starr's Mill will not get back into action until Jan. 19, when they host Sandy Creek at Kedron Aquatic Center.
