Though the college football season ends tonight and professional football has a few games left, we are entering a doldrum season of professional sports. There will be hockey and basketball to watch, but both sports fail to draw the audience until their playoff season begins and by that time, baseball season has started up again. It seeems that figure skating is the sport that lies between the football season and the baseball season, and this will be a big weekend for fans of figure skating.

The 2001 Champions on Ice Tour returns to Phillips Arena in Atlanta this Sunday, bringing former Olympic and World Champion skaters and their exciting performances to the home of the Thrashers and Hawks.

This year's tour includes U.S. women, Dorothy Hamill, Nicole Bobek and Nancy Kerrigan and U.S. men Brian Boitano, Rudy Galindo and Dan Hollander. Hamill and Boitano are both former Olympic and World Champions. Other skaters featured on the tour are France's Surya Bonaly and Phillipe Candeloro, Ukranian Victor Petrenko and Germany's Katarina Witt. Witt is a time two Olympic Champion and four time World Champion.

There will also be dance performances from Elizabeth Punsalan and Jerod Swallow of the U.S. and Maya Usova and Evgeny Platov of Russia. For the fans of Pairs performances, Oksana Kazakova and Artur Dmitriev of Russia and Vladimir Besedin and Alexei Polishchuk of the Ukraine will perform.

So, if you and your family are fans of axels, camel spins, death spirals, lutz jumps, spins, turns lifts and dutch rolls, head to the Champions on Ice Tour at Phillips Arena this weekend. Tickets are available at any Ticketmaster Outlet and at the Phillips Arena Box Office.
