Tickets for Atlanta Passion Play go on sale Jan.12

Fayette and other area residents interested in attending this year's performance of the Atlanta Passion Play can order tickets beginning Jan. 12 when tickets go on sale by phone, mail order, or at the Atlanta Passion Play box office on Peachtree Rd. in Atlanta. Box office hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Performances are scheduled for March 24, 25, 30 and 3l, and April 1, 6, 7 and 8 at the Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Ave., NE, in Atlanta. The matinee performance on Saturday, March 31, will be interpreted for the deaf and special seating will be available.

Each year, more than 43,000 people from all over the United States attend the Atlanta performance, which is presented by a cast of more than 250 actors with a total of over 750 people involved in the production.

"We invite you to be a part of this powerful and inspiring musical drama that takes you back 2,000 years to the time of our Lord Jesus Christ," a spokesperson said. "Relive with us the events surrounding the life of Christ. Observe the men chosen to be his disciples. See the miracles Jesus performed during his ministry and the lives that were changed. Experience the suffering and pain Christ went through as He was mocked, beaten, and crucified. Feel the joy of His friends when they realized He had risen."

Although the scriptural truths in the play remain the same, the script and music change from year to year. "You will be enthralled at the beautifully painted sets," the spokesperson continued, " the authentic biblical costumes, the dramatic use of lights, the live orchestra, and the glorious sound of the choruses."

Ticket prices are $18 for seating in the loge, orchestra or deaf section, $14 for box seats with limited visibility and dress circle, and $8 for balcony seats. Orders for best seats will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Mail orders will be processed in order of postmark date.

No photography, audio or video taping will be allowed and no children under six years of age will be admitted, due to the length of the performance, the sacredness of the play, and the vivid portrayal of Christ's death. There are no group discounts.
