Ring in the New Year around Fayette County

By now, you know the unfortunate news that New Year's Eve falls on a Sunday.

No, you don't have to get up and go to work the next day, but it will feel like it and odds are you'll constantly be reminding yourself of that. That is, unless you do something wild and crazy and usher in the real millenium with a bang.

There are several options for all of the potential party animals out there, of any age.

For some people, a nice meal is a good way to usher in the new year and many restaurants will be offering a special evening of dining. City Cafe in Fayetteville will have its millenium celebration Saturday, Dec. 30, while Village Cafe and Olde Mill Steakhouse will have their celebrations on New Year's Eve. The best bet for those of you who would like to enjoy a good meal is to call your favorite restaurant and see what they have planned.

For the younger crowd, Dazzles II Skating Rink and Fayetteville Fun Bowl will both be hosting New Year's Eve celebrations. Dazzles II will be open from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. Jan. 1. The cost for the all-night skate is $10. Fayetteville Fun Bowl will host Cosmic Bowling. The cost of the lanes from 8-11 p.m. is $60, while lanes from 11:30 p.m.-2:30 a.m. will cost $70.

The Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center also will host New Year's Eve celebrations, as they usher in the "True Millennium." The Hunt Club will host a four-course meal, complete with champagne celebrations, at the beginning of the meal and again at midnight. Cost is $185 per couple and $95 for singles.

Admission also gives you free admission to the Hunt Club Lounge. Reservations are required by calling 770-487-0123. The party at the Hunt Club Lounge will offer hors d'oeuvres, party favors and dancing to the Blue Kudza Band, as well as a Champagne toast at midnight. Tickets will be $30 and will be sold at the door.

The Grand Ballroom will host the largest celebration complete with a filet mignon and loster dinner. There will be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a four-course meal, an open bar, a Champagne toast at midnight and a continental breakfast. The band Paparazzi will perform and D.J. Dale also will spin tunes. Tickets are $365 per couple or $190 per single. Reservations are required by calling 770-487-2000.

Other options for New Year's Eve are watching the Stanley Kubrick film "2001: A Space Oddysey," hosting your own party, or traveling into Atlanta for festivities, including First Night.

Whatever you and yours choose to do, have a happy and safe holiday.
