A fabulous tour of lights

One of the newer holiday traditions is the decorating of one's house with lights and the traveling around to view other family's decorations.

The tradition grows more and more every year, as neighbors begin to feel like they aren't in the Christmas spirit if they don't put up lights and decorations as well. The streets and cul de sacs soon become majestic and beautiful and a boon to the local power company. Here are some suggestions of neighborhoods and homes that have done an exceptional job decorating their houses.

Depending on where you live, you can start from any one of these stops and continue on. For the sake of convienience I will start from the center of downtown Fayetteville.

The Christmas tree and display at the Stonewall complex is beautifully lit this year. After leaving the display, head out on Ga. Highway 54 toward Peachtree City.

The first stop should be the Melear's residence on Burch Road. At the traffic light by Gingercake Road, turn left on to Burch. Through word of mouth, including postings on the Internet, the buzz is that the Melear's light display is fantastic. After visiting the light display, head back out to Hwy. 54 and toward Peachtree City.

The next stop on your list should be a home on Sandy Creek Road. After turning from Hwy. 54 onto Sandy Creek Road, the house is a few miles up on the left. The family annually puts up a drive-through lights display and it always looks great.

After leaving the residence, turn left and go back up Sandy Creek toward Ga. Highway 74. Travel on 74 until it intersects with Hwy. 54 and turn left at the lights. At the set of lights at Peachtree Parkway, take a right and enter the Wingate community on the left. Each year, the residents decorate their houses with a Disney theme and the interest level of the neighbors increases each year as well.

This next house is an individual display and probably smaller than the other two displays you've seen, but I pass it all the time and it deserves attention. From here, head back out to the parkway and down toward Crosstown Drive. Go straight on the parkway at the four-way stop and turn left on to Braelinn Road. Turn right into the Morallion Hills subdivision and the display is halfway down the road on the left. Trust me, you can't miss it.

Leaving Morallion Hills, turn right onto Braelinn Road and right on Robinson Road. At the next stop sign, tun right and on to the Peachtree Parkway. Stay on this road until it intersects with Ga. Highway 85 and then turn left. The next stop will be Harp's Farm and the easiest way to get there is to travel on Hwy. 85 until the stop light by Kroger and Eckerd; turn right at the light and then right again at the stop sign. Harp's Farm will be on your left, approximately two to three miles down the road.

After seeing the Harp's Farm display, go back the way you came and travel on it as it turns into S. Jeff Davis Drive. This will soon intersect with Ga. 85. Travel toward the Pavilion and turn right at Banks Road. The next and final stop will be the Wellington subdivision. Each year, many of the houses in the neighborhood participate in the decorating with cheerful holiday displays.

These are only suggestions and chances are you and your family have your own favorite stops to make. Perhaps you like to be more adventurous and see where the night takes you. Either way, have a Merry Christmas and enjoy the holiday season.
