The Sandy Creek Patriots boys basketball team is now 10-2. They have won seven games in a row and have decimated their opponents in that span.

The team is averaging close to 80 points over that span and has defeated their opponents by close to 30 points in each of those games. Those trends held true this weekend as Sandy Creek took to the road, facing Heritage on Friday night and Fayette County on Saturday.

The Patriots defeated Heritage, 88-57, thanks to great defense and excellent shooting. Sandy Creek had 14 three pointers in the win.

"We started off with a light press and slowly went man to man and then we really got after it," said Coach Rick Francis. "The team is doing an excellent job, playing fundamental, hard nose defense."

William Belton was the leading scorer for the Patriots with 19 poits, while L.T. Lockett added 17 points. Corey Adams and Kevin Craig each scored 14 points.

"We've never had the luxury of having four players scoring double digits before this season," explained Francis.

Those four players performed well the following evening, as they defeated Fayette County, 81-51. The team built a 46-23 lead at the half and pushed it up to 65-33 at the end of the third quarter.

"We're scoring on a lot of the turnovers," Fracis said. "Our transition game is really coming along."

Belton was the leading scorer for Sandy Creek again on Saturday with 16 points, while Adams scored 15, Lockett added 14 and Craig added 11 points. The team is now off until after the Christmas break. They will host Union Grove on Jan. 5 and will travel to Westlake on Jan. 6.

In other Sandy Creek basketball news, Lockett was named the AJC Player of the Week last week. He was presented with awards from Publix and the AJC and was shown on a program on the Atlanta CBS affilaite on Sunday morning. Lockett is averaging 23 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game and 3.2 steals a game.

Both the McIntosh boys and girls basketball teams fell to Riverdale on Friday night. The Lady Chiefs lost to the Lady Raiders, 56-30, while the boys fell, 66-59. Josh Burr led the Chiefs in scoring against Riverdale with 23 points, while Drew Hartley chipped in 16 points.

In other basketball games last weekend, Sandy Creek's girls lost to Heritage, 30-23. The Lady Patriots also lost on saturday night, falling to Fayette County, 47-21. Landmark Christian's boys defeated Cathedral, 53-46. Todd Moret led the War Eagles with 26 points.
