Atlanta Beat signs sisters from PTC By
MICHAEL BOYLAN Whether you know it yet or not, we've got The Beat. The Atlanta Beat, Atlanta's team in the WUSA, the women's eight-team professional soccer league, will start its training camp in March and its season in April. The league recently had its draft and chose, among other players, Peachtree City's Julie and Nancy Augustyniak. The Augustyniaks were members of the Atlanta Classics, Atlanta's W-League team. They attended McIntosh High School and currently attend Clemson University. The two defenders will be teamed with another former Classic player, forward Kerry Gragg. The team also has some national team members, including Cindy Parlow and Briana Scurry. The Beat also selected China's Sun Wen, who will be a force on offense. Other players on the Beat are Homare Sawa, Charmaine Hooper and Sharolta Nonen of Canada, Kylie Bivens of Santa Clara University, and Lisa Kryzykowskie and Marci Miller of Chicago's W-League team, The Cobras. Training camp for the Beat begins March 1, 2001. Games will be televised on TNT. |
