Lady Patriot volleyball team has two seniors sign with Brenau By MICHAEL BOYLAN The Sandy Creek High School volleyball team had a great season. The team advanced to the elite eight for the first time in school history and won a record 28 games. This success can also be measured with the recruitment of the team's graduating seniors. On Monday morning, seniors Jennifer Brickle and Jessica Ingle, two outside hitters for the Lady Patriots, signed with Brenau University. "We were both interested in the university and interested in playing volleyball in college," Ingle said. "We went for a tryout and had a lot of fun." Brickle agreed and said that attending camps at a number of colleges also influenced their desire to play at a collegiate level. Brenau's volleyball coach, Scott Haney, was on hand at the signing and spoke highly of both players. "It was obvious at the tryout that both girls are very skilled and have been very well-coached," he said. "They are very enthusiastic and have great attitudes." Brenau graduated two outside hitters this year and is looking for players that make a contribution next season. Sandy Creek volleyball Coach James Slaton will miss both Ingle and Brickle next year, but thinks their example as team leaders will be seen in the team's performance next year as well. "They are very versatile players and are well-rounded individuals both on and off the court," said Slaton. "Though they will be outside hitters in college, they can play at any position." In addition to Brickle and Ingle, Racine Francis also is being recruited to play in college. She is expected to sign after the first of the year. |
