Panthers place third at South Metro tournament By MICHAEL BOYLAN Twenty-three teams entered the South Metro wrestling tournament at Fayette County High School over the weekend, including all of the county high school teams. The top two spots, however, went to Woodward Academy and Stockbridge, while Starr's Mill placed third. The Panthers scored 214 points and had three wrestlers capture first place in their respective weights: Jason Kiefer, 145; Ariston Bowers, 152; and Chris Coleman, 160. Coleman's match in the finals was judged the Best Finals Match in the tournament. In an interesting turn in the tournament, East Coweta, Fayette County and McIntosh finished 10th, 11th and 12th respectively. The Indians scored 92 points, while the Tigers scored 87.5 and the Chiefs scored 73 points. This proves that the competition for the county, region and state championships will be tight. Sandy Creek finished in 19th place with 41 points. McIntosh's Daniel Graham placed second at 112, while Fayette County's James Bouie took second place at 275 and Sandy Creek's Larry Wright placed second at 145. Tonight, McIntosh will host LaGrange and East Coweta at 5 p.m. Starr's Mill will host the Starr's Mill Invitational Friday evening starting at 6 p.m. and Saturday starting at 9 a.m. This will be an exciting season of wrestling and each match becomes more important as the season wears on. |
